Chandigarh: Justice Ravi Shankar Jha has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Jha is currently holding the post of Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. His name has been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium. Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Krishna Murari has been appointed to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of the Chief Justice of four High Courts of the country besides Justice Ravi Shankar Jha to the Supreme Court. Justice Krishna Murari was in the Allahabad High Court before becoming the Chief Justice of the Punjab-Haryana High Court. Justice Krishna Murari was appointed Chief Justice of the Punjab-Haryana High Court on June 2 last year after Justice SJ Wazifdar retired.

Now the Supreme Court Collegium has given him a promotion and recommended his appointment as a judge in the Supreme Court. Justice Jha is currently holding the post of Acting Chief Justice in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Born on October 14, 1961, Justice Jha started advocacy in the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 1986. He has been serving as a permanent judge in the Madhya Pradesh High Court since February 2, 2007.

The Supreme Court has recommended the appointment of Allahabad High Court Judge Ajay Lamba as Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court. Justice Lamba was the most senior judge of the Punjab Haryana High Court and has been appointed from the quota of Punjab and Haryana High Court. In December 2011, Justice Lamba was transferred to the Allahabad High Court.
