Jyothika Dutta of Guru Nanak University Amritsar won the gold medal in the fencing of the first Khelo India University Games on Sunday, 23 February 2020. The 22-year-old defeated Linthoi Haobam of Manipur University in the final.

According to reports, Jyothika had earlier spent time at the High-Performance Center of the International Fencing Federation in France, which benefited her. Guru Nanak University got three golds in fencing. Swimmers from Jain University Bangalore won four gold medals.
