Every year, International Friendship Day or Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August. On this day, everyone party with friends and goes for a walk. This day has special significance among friends. Just as Father's Day is dedicated to the father and Mother's Day to the mother, friendship day is dedicated to friends. On this day, everyone gives cards, flowers, chocolates, etc. to their friends. This year Friendship Day will be celebrated on 1st August 2021.

Friendship Day was first held in 1958. However, it was born from hallmark cards by Joyce Hall in 1930. The United Nations finally declared July 30 as the Official International Day of Friendship. In India, however, it is normally celebrated on the first Sunday of the month of August. In 1998, former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Wife, Nain Annan, declared Vini de Pooh as the global ambassador of friendship at the UN.

Friendship Day is celebrated on different days in different countries around the world. On April 27, 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations officially declared July 30 as International Day of Friendship. However, friendship day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August in many South Asian countries including India. Friendship Day is celebrated on 8th April at Orblin in Ohio.
