NEW DELHI: Kabaddi veteran Ajay Thakur has been honoured with the Arjuna Award on Thursday. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the award on the occasion of Sports Day. Indian Kabaddi team captain Ajay Thakur received a prize money of five lakh rupees, a bronze statue of legendary archer Arjuna and a citation for his contribution to the sport. Arjuna Awardee Ajay Thakur said his dream has been fulfilled.
The award is thanks to the love and blessings of their families, Gurus, provincials, fans and kabaddi lovers. As DSP in the police, Kabiz Ajay said that Kabaddi's game has given him a lot in life, and now it will be his endeavour to increase the value of the country for the year in which Kabaddi will play. He also spoke about the early completion of his goal of setting up an academy in the village to develop Kabaddi.
Other family members, including Ajay Thakur's wife Sandeep, witnessed the historic moment. Kabaddi's Maharthi Himachali Saput Ajay Thakur has been conferred with the Arjuna Award for the year 2019 for his outstanding achievements in the field of sports. Ajay Thakur was also awarded the Padma Shri award on 11th March this year. It is considered to be the fourth major honour in the country after Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan. He has now been awarded the Arjuna Award.
