Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen in the ‘Kabir singh’ the remake of Arjun Reddy, claims that his upcoming movie is totally raw and different from the Telugu version. Now, if you have already watched Arjun reddy, you might be able to relate Kabir Rajveer Singh (Shahid's character in Kabir Singh) to the former.

As soon as the teaser of Kabir Singh was unveiled on April 8, Twitterati began comparing it to the Vijay-starrer Arjun Reddy. On the other hand, Shahid Kapoor, who is playing an alcoholic surgeon in the remake, has an epic response to those who are likening the two. Shahid Kapoor clarified that even though Kabir Singh is a remake, the characters in both the versions are like "cousins". "Vijay Devarakonda was spectacular in the film. If you ask me, Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy are cousins; they are not the same person," Shahid told Mid-Day.

Speaking about his role, Shahid revealed that the origins of the protagonist in Kabir Singh has been shifted to Delhi and Mumbai. "The family and upbringing of the character has changed. However, we have retained the fundamental energy of the character,'' he said. ''We are trying to make it raw. The role required latent rage as the protagonist is full of angst. It wasn’t easy to internalize that rage," Shahid, who will step into the shoes of Vijay Devarakonda, added.

Shahid, who also Udta Punjab, earlier shared that his character in Kabir Singh required him to smoke cigarettes and beedis and snort cocaine for a major portion of the shoot. ''It wasn’t easy, and it came to a point where I smoked almost 20 cigarettes a day. It would take me close to two hours to shower and get rid of the smells before I could return home to my children,'' Shahid said.

In the teaser, Shahid's character Kabir can be seen gulping down alcohol straight from the bottle, puffing on cigarettes, snorting cocaine and nursing a broken heart. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga (who also directed Arjun Reddy in 2017), Kabir Singh will star Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. The film is set to hit the screens on June 21.
