New Delhi: The bail plea of Devangana Kalita, an accused in the Delhi riots case and activist of the cage break operation, has been turned down by the Karkardooma court of Delhi. The court rejected Devangana's bail plea, saying the court had sufficient grounds to rely on the allegations made by the police. The court said that the allegations against him seem prima facie correct.

Member of the Cage Break Group and JNU student Devangana Kalita, accused in the riot case during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), were accused of inciting violence during the protest. In a charge sheet, the Delhi Police claimed that 300 women who had reached Jafrabad from Jahangirpuri to protest the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) were allegedly instigated by Devangana Kalita for violence. It was also told that these women brought arms, acid bottles and chilli powder with them.

In February last year, 53 people lost their lives and around 200 people were injured in the violence erupted during the protest against CAA. Earlier, the Delhi Police had claimed in a chargesheet that the accused who instigated violence during the demonstrations against CAA and NRC had the support of Pakistani ISI and Khalistan.
