This temple is in Ellora caves located in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, which is known as Kailash temple of Ellora. The specialty of this temple, 276 feet long and 154 feet wide, is that it has been built by cutting only one rock. It is said that about 40 thousand tons of stones were cut in the construction of this temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its biggest feature is that an attempt has been made to give its form like the Kailash of the Himalayas. It is said that the king who built it believed that if a person could not reach the Himalayas, then he would be able to come here and see Lord Shiva. The construction work of this temple was started by Naresh Krishna (I) (757-783 AD) of Rashtrakuta dynasty at Malkhed. It is believed that it took more than 100 years to build and about 7000 laborers had contributed to the construction of this temple day and night.
