Kolkata: Well-known actor Mithun Chakraborty has joined BJP before the proposed assembly elections in West Bengal. Mithun, who was a Rajya Sabha MP, joined the party in a rally held in Kolkata in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 7 this week. The 70-year-old Mithun had described himself as a cobra, and a person working for the poor, attacking the opposition parties after joining the BJP.
After Mithun Da joined the BJP, there were speculations that he could be a candidate for the BJP in the upcoming elections, but no official statement came on it. However, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has given the first response on this issue. BJP National General Secretary Vijayvargiya while talking to the press said that he had spoken to Mithun Da, but he has refused to contest the election. But he will campaign on behalf of the party.
Kailash Vijayvargiya further said that 'I spoke to Mithun Chakraborty, he has refused to contest the election. If the party decides, we will talk to Mithun Da and if he wants to contest, we will fight.' At the same time, as soon as joining the BJP, the Central Government has given Mithun Chakraborty VIP protection of the 'Y Plus' category. Official sources said that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) would provide him with this protection.
