After his impressive debut with 'Managaram', director Lokesh Kanagaraj stunned the audience with his second film 'Kaithi' starring actor Karthi in the lead. The success of the film got films with Thalapathy Vijay and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan as well. Following the success of 'Kaithi', it was recently announced that the film will be remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn in the role played by Karthi in the original.

After a section of the media reported that the story of 'Kaithi' was plagiarised from a real prisoner named Rajeev who spent his jail time at the Puzhal prison in Chennai, the film's producer SR Prabhu has responded to the allegations. Though he has revealed that they do not know the official details of the case, and so are not in a position to comment on the same, he has also said that he and his team are ready to face any legalities in the issue as they have their records clean.

The young producer also slammed the channel for the way the issue was reported and also condemned the derogatory remarks on the director and asked netizens not to jump to conclusions.

Reports are that Rajiv Ranjan had filed a complaint in the Kollam court in Kerala seeking compensation of Rs 4 crore, claiming that the story of Karthi?s 'Kaithi' was his. He has apparently claimed that he had narrated the story to SR Prabhu back in 2007 and the later agreed to film the story and paid him an advance of Rs. 10,000.
