Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Former chief minister and state Congress president Kamal Nath here on Friday. they are believed to have discussed the new farm laws and the ongoing farmers' agitation.

The two leaders discussed the contentious new farm laws of the Centre among other things during the meeting that lasted about 20 minutes, the Congress claimed later. The meeting at Chouhan's official residence came ahead of likely announcement of civic bodies elections in the state.

The state Congress said in a release that the two leaders discussed the ''black farm laws'' as well as issues related to development, while a government release only said that the two leaders met.

Kamal Nath said that these three farm laws will destroy farmers in the country. "Irrespective of politics, every person who sympathises with farmers should oppose them. India is a predominantly agricultural country. These laws will cause damage to both farmers and the agriculture sector. Today our farmers have been sitting on agitation for more than two months. At this time, all of us need to support them," he added.

Kamal Nath had earlier called on his neighbour Chouhan on November 11 in the aftermath of an acrimonious campaign for by-polls to 28assembly seats.

Both the chief minister and the Congress leader have already slipped into election mode though dates for civic elections are yet to be announced.
