France: Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the U.S, is joining the White House charm effort aimed at French President Emmanuel Macron. The vice president will travel in Paris on Tuesday for a four-day visit, the latest step in the Biden administration's deliberate drive to strengthen America's oldest friend. After a U.S.-British submarine deal with Australia thwarted a French pact with the Australians, Washington's relations with Paris hit an all-time low this year.

On Wednesday, Harris will meet with Macron at the Élysée Palace for talks that are expected to centre on how the two countries might better coordinate their efforts in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as other concerns affecting the relationship. President Joe Biden met Macron on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Rome less than two weeks ago, and admitted that his administration handled the submarine sale in a "clumsy" manner.

Harris said that she and Macron would also discuss new potential for space collaboration. Harris will also give a lecture at the annual Paris Peace Forum on Thursday and attend the Paris Conference on Libya the next day. For the visit, she will be accompanied by her husband, Douglas Emhoff.
