New Delhi: Kanhaiya Kumar, former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students' union and Congress leader, recently distanced himself from his friend Umar Khalid. Not only that, when Kanhaiya was asked by a journalist about his friend Umar Khalid, he turned away from it. Umar Khalid is among the accused in the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi in February 2020 last year.

The video of Kanhaiya's friendship cheating comment is going viral on social media. According to it, the journalist questioned Kanhaiya Kumar whether Umar Khalid was his friend or not. Replying to this, Kanhaiya said, "Who told you?" The journalist then replied that he had seen them in a video. Kanhaiya Kumar again questioned in which video he saw him calling Umar his friend. However, Khalid's supporters and some Islamists were outraged by Kanhaiya's statement and are expressing their displeasure through social media.

Irena Akbar has described Kanhaiya Kumar as a stab in the back who has betrayed Umar Khalid. Irena wrote, 'A friend who leaves you in your difficult times is no less than a backstabbing. He is worse than the enemy. Selfish, opportunistic coward Kanhaiya Kumar was not worthy of Umar Khalid's friendship. Good for Umar. A lesson for Muslims. We are alone in this.
