New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court has pronounced its verdict in the case of assault of former JNU President Kanhaiya Kumar, accused in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) anti-national sloganeering case, during his appearance in Patiala house court. The court has acquitted BJP MLA OP Sharma and Tarwinder Singh Marwah in the case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ravind Kumar Pandey in his judgement said that it could not be established that OP Sharma was present on the spot along with the crowd. It has also not been proved that Sharma did not hurt complainant Amik Jamai in any way or threaten to kill him. Therefore, both are acquitted on the basis of evidence.

This is the case in February 2016. The court said no other eyewitness in the case joined the investigation. On the other hand, the complainant is not only the only witness in the case and his statements are contradictory. The court said OP Sharma and the complainant follow the ideology of different parties. Not only that, complainant Amik Jamai did not even reveal his name in his initial complaint.
