Kanpur: President Ram Nath Kovind has expressed grief over the loss of 17 persons in a major road accident in Kanpur, UP, the country's largest state, on Tuesday night. The dangerous incident took place in a fierce collision between a bus and loader (loader) on Kanpur-Allahabad Highway. Several persons were also injured in the accident and are being treated at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. The condition of many persons still remains critical.
President Kovind wrote on Twitter on Wednesday morning that he was deeply saddened to hear of the death of several passengers in a tragic road accident in Kanpur. He wrote, 'In this hour of grief, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish speedy recovery to those injured'.
Earlier, PM Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and announced compensation for the families of the victims. The PM's office tweeted late on Tuesday night that the PM expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished speedy recovery to the injured. The Prime Minister also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and 50,000 rupees to the injured from the National Disaster Fund. According to information received, a speeding bus hit a loader in Kisan Nagar late on Tuesday evening, which jumped and fell on the highway. The bus also overturned after the collision and fell into a deep gorge.
