KANPUR: A New Terminal Building at Kanpur Airport will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of  Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia tomorrow, May 26,, as per an official statement.

A statue honouring the late Madhavrao Jivajirao Scindia will also be unveiled by Adityanath and Scindia at Mainpuri.

According to the statement, the new terminal building is 6,243 sqm (16 times larger than the original terminal) and cost Rs 150 crore to construct. It is also designed to handle 400 people during peak hours, up from 50 previously. Passengers may check in quickly and efficiently thanks to the eight check-in counters.

In addition, three conveyor belts—two in the arrival hall and one in the departure hall—enable efficient baggage processing and retrieval. The 850 square metre concessionaire area is roomy and provides travellers with a variety of shopping and dining alternatives, according to the statement.

To enhance accessibility and simplicity of navigating for passengers with visual impairments, tactile walkways have been created.

There are 150 car  parking spaces and 2 bus parking spaces on the terminal's city side, providing commuters with plenty of parking options.

The statement listed a number of sustainability features that the terminal building of the new civil enclave at Kanpur Airport is fitted with, including a double-insulated roofing system, provision of canopies for energy conservation, LED lighting, low heat gain double glazing and rainwater harvesting to replenish the groundwater table.

Currently, Kanpur Airport is directly connected to Mumbai and Bangalore. The terminal building's front features a representation of the JK Temple of Kanpur's architectural style.
