Lucknow:  Six people drowned while taking a bath in the Ganga at Kothi Ghat in Asind village under Bilhaur in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Two children were among those who drowned. A young man was rescued by divers and rushed to Bilhaur CHC, but doctors declared him dead.  

At present, a team of divers along with villagers is engaged in searching for the rest of the people. There was an outcry at the ghat over the incident. Police from nearby police station areas, including Bilhaur police, have reached out for assistance. According to eyewitnesses, on Tuesday morning, three youths, two children and a young woman had gone to take a bath in the Ganga at Kothi Ghat. While bathing, the children and the young woman started drowning in deep water when the young men jumped into the Ganga to save them. By the time the people standing on the banks of the ghat could understand something, everyone drowned in the Ganga, causing chaos on the ghat.  

Villagers and divers informed the police and jumped into the Ganga to rescue them. Divers pulled out 20-year-old Saurabh Katiyar from the middle stream. The villagers took him to CHC Bilhaur. The doctors there declared him dead. While the search for Vinay Kumar Patel's 15-year-old daughter Anushka, 13-year-old Anshika Patel, 20-year-old Abhay Katiyar, 18-year-old Tanu Katihar and Manu is going on.
