Chandigarh: Kapil Dev has been made the first Chancellor of Haryana Sports University, who won the first world cup title in 1983. Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij gave a tweet about this. Kapil Dev's name had been discussed earlier that he would become the first Chancellor of this university. Now the Sports Minister has announced it officially. Born in Chandigarh, the capital of Haryana, Kapil Dev is also known as Haryana Hurricane.

This sports university is formed in Rai village of Sonepat district of Haryana state. Earlier it was a sports school, which has now been converted into a sports university. For your information, this is the third sports university in the country, which has been started by a state government. Prior to this, sports universities operate in Gujarat (Swarnim Gujarat Sports University) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University).

The former veteran has played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs for the Indian team. Kapil Dev has scored 5248 runs in Tests and 3783 runs in ODIs. Kapil Dev holds the record for taking 434 wickets in Test cricket and 253 wickets in ODI cricket. Recently, the BCCI had given him the task of choosing the new coach of Team India.
