New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader and lawyer by profession Kapil Sibal has requested the apex court to take automatic action on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, killing eight people, including four farmers. In a tweet, Sibal said, 'There was a time when YouTube was not there, there were no social media, the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance on the basis of news in print media. It heard the voice of the speechless.' At the same time, he demanded that the court should take similar action in the Lakhimpur case.

Making a clear reference to the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Kapil Sibal said that today, when our citizens are being trampled and killed, the apex court is requested to take action. Four farmers were among the eight killed in Sunday's violence in Lakhimpur, who were allegedly trampled by vehicles driven by BJP workers at an event in the area to welcome Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.

In Lakhimpur Kheri, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra has been accused of shooting a farmer and trampling farmers with his jeep in connection with the violence that erupted during a protest against the central government's agricultural laws. Congress leader Kapil Sibal said the UP police have registered a case against Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra but no arrests have been made so far.
