New Delhi: Congress leader and senior advocate Kapil Sibal have said that the power of contempt is being used like a blacksmith's hammer, after the Supreme Court of India blamed senior advocate Prashant Bhushan in the contempt case. Kapil Sibal tweeted that, 'Prashant Bhushan. The power of contempt is being used like a blacksmith's hammer. Why courts are helpless when there is a need to protect the constitution and laws, showing "contempt" in the same way for both. Big issues are at stake. History will evaluate the court to dismiss us.

Before Kapil Sibal, on the court's stance, former Union Minister Arun Shourie had said that the person who sits in a high position, whether it is the President, PM or judge, is to sit in the chair and not to stand. In the context of Prashant Bhushan's tweet, when Arun Shourie was asked the question, he gave a jawan and said that he is surprised that 280 characters are shaking the pillar of democracy. They do not feel that the image of the top court is so fragile. The Supreme Court does not become unstable by 280 characters.

Let us tell you that in the contempt case, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan was convicted by the top court. During the hearing on the sentence, Prashant Bhushan in his plea, referring to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, had said in the court that, "failure to speak will be an insult to duty. Sadly, I have been convicted of contempt of court, whose glory I have tried to retain not as a courtier or cheerleader but as a guardian for 30 years.
