KARACHI: A bomb blast in Karachi's Saddar area killed at least one person and injured numerous others, police reported on Friday.
According to Samaa TV, the explosion on Daud Pota road caused damage to between six and nine vehicles.m Police said, the explosion was most likely triggered by an IED planted on the scene. They said, a Pakistan Coast Guards vehicle could be targeted. The personnel in the car, however, were unharmed.
At least three persons were injured, according to Information Minister Sharjeel Minister, but other reports put the number at 11. One person was killed, according to Shahid Rasool, executive director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). His body was shifted to JPMC, which is a short distance from the bomb site.
Sumaiyya Tariq Syed, an additional police surgeon at JPMC, verified that nine people were hurt and that two of them were in critical condition. "A 25-year-old victim who was also the hospital's employer was brought dead," Syed said.
According to hospital authorities, the victims had ball-bearing wounds, which are common in terrorist bombings in Pakistan. The bomb disposal squad was brought in after the police cordoned off the area.
Officials warned people to stay away from the scene because they worried the initial blast might be followed by another.
