The public should be able to watch Karan Mehra and Nisha Rawal's trial live, as was done for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, whose case went in Johnny's favor and is currently in the middle of a contentious divorce. Before Nisha accused Karan of domestic violence in 2021, the couple had been married for more than nine years. She reported the actor to the police in May 2021, accusing him of assaulting her. When he was let out of jail a short time later, he refuted the allegation.

Since then, Karan and Nisha Rawal have been engaged in a legal battle, and their son Kavish continues to live with the latter at their Mumbai home. The two have also spoken out against one another in numerous press conferences, and Karan now claims he would have preferred for the public to witness their trial as well, if it had been possible. He added that even though people in this place are comparing Johnny to him, their situations are very different.

Karan was recently asked if he would prefer a televised trial like Johnny Depp during a conversation with Siddharth Kannan. The actor answered, "In India, it doesn't occur. Since I've been working in the system for so long—cases, drafting, lawyers—I've learned some things in this area that I never explored before. Therefore, there is no system available here that allows for a live trial. Because I have nothing to conceal, I would dearly love to. I claim to have 1500 pages attached, and I wrote each one from scratch. And this is after I had exhausted all other options and there was no paper at home that I could gather."

He also mentioned a live trial, "If it were like them (Johnny-Amber), everyone would understand and be able to see. However, it doesn't occur in India. And it took Johnny Depp 6-7 years to complete what they were doing. That was unique. Naturally, they are calling me Johnny and other names now that this case has been referred to us, but the way we are handling these matters is very aggressive. I'm ready whether you file nine cases, ten cases, or twenty."

In the past, Karan had alleged that Nisha had an extramarital relationship with her Rakhi brother. She retorted that she is "not answerable" to anyone and claimed that Karan does not want to shoulder the financial burden of raising their son.
