Karan launches new foundation in memory of his father, to help film industry employees

Filmmaker Yash Johar is set to complete 17 years he left the world. Yash Johar, who married Film Producer and Director Yash Chopra's sister Hiru, has crossed several milestones in movie making in Hindi cinema. His son producer, director Karan Johar on Friday announced the establishment of a foundation in memory of Yash Johar who started his career with Sunil Dutt's movie 'Mujhe Jeene Do'. The Foundation has started with a resolve to do everything possible to improve the quality of life of the people of The Indian Entertainment World. The Foundation will work with the employees, tacoits and artists associated with the movie to make plans and help them. Apart from this, Dharma Productions has also been helping film workers through various organizations during the epidemic.

Devananda's movie 'Guide' started recognizing Yash Johar's ability. After which Navketan Films and Yash Johar had a long relationship. Yash Johar himself became a movie producer in 1976 with Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha and Zeenat Aman's blockbuster movie 'Dostana' and the same film laid the foundation of his production company Dharma Productions. The same company also made Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Chakraborty's hit film 'Agneepath'.

It was under the banner of Dharma Productions that Yash Johar made his son Karan Johar a movie director in 1998 with the movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji's movie established Karan Johar as a successful director in Hindi cinema. Talking about the Yash Johar Foundation in memory of his father, Karan says, "This foundation built in my father's memory took his legacy forward. I also feel proud to set up this foundation. It will aim to improve the quality of life of the people of Indian film industry".

Yash Johar was one of the most respected producers of Hindi movie industry. He also helped Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza a lot in setting up their production company Dreams Unlimited. Yash Johar handled the entire production of the company's first movie 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani'. Later, on his recommendation, Juhi Chawla's brother Bobby Chawla became the head of the company as producer Yash Johar's last movie 'Kal Ho Naa Ho'.

After the death of his father, Karan Johar took over as his father's company Dharma Productions and since then the company has been making steady progress. Karan Johar also founded Dharmatik, a digital branch of his movie production company, and now he started dharma cornerstore agency, a talent management company. Dharma Productions has also recently signed a big deal with Viacom 18 for the distribution of its films.
