Kargil Day: Defence Minister Lit 'Vijay Jyoti', Will Reach Dras Through 9 Big Cities, Watch Video

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lit the Vijay Jyoti at Delhi's National War Memorial on Sunday to mark the 20th anniversary of the Kargil war victory.

"Today at the National War Memorial in Delhi, I handed over 'Vijay Jyoti'  to the Indian Army," he tweeted.  On the occasion of Kargil Victory Day (July 26), passing through nine major cities of North India, the army's outstanding player and war-veteran 'Vijay Jyoti' will meet him in the light burning on the Kargil war memorial.

On the occasion, Lt Gen Birbir Singh, Chief of the Army's Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Chief of the Army's Army Chief, Andrei, and Lt Gen Y. K Joshi were also present. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Army Chief and Paramveer Chakra winner Subedar Sanjay Kumar handed over the torch to the Army's best shooter Subedar Jitu Rai.

This torch is made from copper, bronze and wood. The top is carved from metal to 'Amar Jawan', while the bottom is covered with 20 gold foliage, which represents the glorious twentieth year of Kargil conquest.
