NEW DELHI: Each passing year, the entire nation unites to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, commemorating India's remarkable victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. This significant event pays homage to the brave Indian soldiers who valiantly defeated the Pakistani intruders attempting to seize control of Indian posts in the Kargil region. The day serves as a solemn remembrance of the 527 martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country during the conflict.

The Kargil War was a prolonged battle that spanned over 60 days, culminating in India successfully reclaiming all territories held by Pakistan. To mark the 24th anniversary of this historic victory, India is gearing up for elaborate celebrations.

The Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, will be the focal point of a grand two-day event celebrating Vijay Diwas. Commencing on victory day,  July 26, the celebrations will witness the honorable presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as the chief guest on Wednesday, July 26. Notably, the event will be graced by many relatives and family members of the Kargil War martyrs, coming together to pay tribute to their heroes.

At the Kargil War Memorial, Army bands will showcase their talent, and local artists will mesmerize the audience with captivating cultural performances. This blend of military prowess and artistic expression aims to make the event memorable and touching for all attendees.

Across the country, various government bodies and organizations are planning their own events to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas. From solemn memorial services to vibrant parades and culturally rich programs, the nation will resonate with patriotic fervor on this special day.

As part of the celebrations, an inspiring mini-marathon was organized in Ladakh by Real Sport India in association with the Indian Army. On Sunday, July 16, over 300 runners participated in the event, including army personnel, veterans, local youth, and students. The mini-marathon commenced from the War Memorial in Drass, reflecting the spirit of unity and determination that defines Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue the tradition of paying tribute to the Indian soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate in New Delhi. The President and Vice President of India will also honor the valiant war heroes in their own solemn homage.

This year's 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas promises to be even more exceptional with the commencement of an all-women motorbike expedition. The 'Nari Sashaktikaran Women Motorcycle Rally,' a Tri-Service initiative, commenced on July 18 from the National War Memorial in New Delhi, with Chief of the Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, flagging off the event. This empowering expedition is set to reach Ladakh on July 25, showcasing the indomitable spirit and courage of women.

As India prepares to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the nation stands united in paying homage to the heroes of the past and drawing inspiration for a future filled with bravery and resilience.
