BENGALURU: The Bommai government on Friday ordered a probe into charges made against senior IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri by JD(S) leader S.R. Mahesh while she was the District Commissioner of Mysuru.

The directives were issued by James Tarakan, Under Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administration Reforms (DPAR). N. Jayaram, the President of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and a senior IPS official, has been selected as the investigating officer.

The deadline for submitting the report is 30 days. The action is reported to be a blow for Rohini Sindhuri, who is recognised for her integrity and lack of concern for politicians. She is the Commissioner of Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department at the moment.

During her time as Hassan District Commissioner, Rohini Sindhuri faced state political heavyweight H.D. Revanna, the son of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the elder brother of former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
She initiated a host of actions after taking over as Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, which made her popular in the region. But she quickly enraged the district's powerful politicians.

S.R. Mahesh, a JD(S) MLA and close confidante of Kumaraswamy, has levelled a number of allegations against Rohini Sindhuri, including the purchase of cloth bags for students, the renovation of her official residence, which is a heritage building, the construction of a swimming pool, and the provision of false statistics on Covid-related deaths.
