Karnataka Tussle : Congress gives "unconditional support", Kumaraswamy holds finance

BENGALURU: Amid a political hullaballoo the 24th Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy is expected to hold the finance portfolio.

This important portfolio is a bone of argument between post poll JD(S) and Congress alliance. According to sources reported on Tuesday that Congress is said to be agreeable to the JD(S) demand.

It seems that Kumaraswamy’s father and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda’s deft course-plotting is behind JD(S) win in the tussle of finance portfolio.

Meanwhile Congress sources said the finance portfolio will not be a heated discussion and the party would wait to see what other portfolios it gets. It was also indicated that the party did not want to extend doubt over cabinet formation as it would prompt guesswork over a power battle.

As per TOI all negotiations between the two alliance partners were happening “at the top level” where it was unwillingly agreed by Congress to let the finance portfolio for JD (S) holds. Despite the arguments

Congress during the 2004 and 2006 coalition governments in Karnataka, kept the portfolio with the respective deputy chief ministers.

However the Congress told that the situation is different from 2004 and 2006 and hence those instances cannot be mentioned now.

Worth mention here the Congress was reminded by JD(S) over a number of rounds of meetings in New Delhi that it had provided unconditional support for five years when it settled to form the government.
