Bangalore: The hard work of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and former minister Gulihatti Shekhar from Chitradurga district, which raised the issue of conversion of Hindus to Christianity in the Karnataka Assembly, finally paid off. According to reports, four families, including the mother of a BJP MLA, returned to Hinduism from Christianity on Monday (October 11, 2021).

Talking to the media, Shekhar said, "Four family members, including my mother, have returned home after following Christianity. They have finally corrected their mistake. He said those returning to Hinduism reached the temple earlier today and offered prayers. He then expressed happiness over his decision. Shekhar says that these people were lured and played with their faith, but now they have reconverted to Hinduism.

Raising the issue in the monsoon session of the state assembly, Shekhar had claimed that more than 20,000 people, including his mother, were converted to Christianity. He had also demanded action against Christian missionaries. At the same time, he said that those who oppose them are implicated in false cases of missionary rape and torture. State Home Minister A Gyanendra had assured him of action in this direction and said that conversion by inducement is a crime.
