Burned with camphor and almond oil, 2-year-old innocent died in hospital

Bangalore: In a drama, the Belagvi police have started investigating a suspected black magic case. On September 23, a two-year-old girl was found unconscious in a sugarcane field in Hallyal village near Athani, who succumbed to her injuries on Friday. Police said, traces of burning, torture were found on the body of the girl. The girl was undergoing treatment at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS), though the girl died in hospital on Friday morning.

According to an official, the girl was found injured crying in the field by farmers after which they took her to a nearby private hospital. She was referred to BIMS after her condition deteriorated there. Initially, the authorities suspected sexual harassment, as the girl's body had signs of cigarette-like burning. However, medical examination has confirmed that the girl was not sexually assaulted. According to police, during the investigation, it was found that she was burnt using camphor and almond oil. Both camphor and almond oil are reportedly used in black magic and the marks found on the body are also pointing to the same. We're investigating the case.

According to police, the girl is yet to be identified. We aired a picture of the baby girl, but people don't know about her and her family. She could not even make a statement to the police as she was unconscious. Police said, to identify the girl, we have asked all police stations to share information about the complaints of the missing children. The investigating team suspects that the girl's parents may also be involved in the case as no missing report of the girl has been registered in any police station.
