Karnataka: The ruling BJP in the state has been shaken by senior leader Basavana Gouda Patil Yatnal's assertion that current cabinet ministers are willing to join the Congress after the state's polls are announced.

The BJP's troubles have been exacerbated by Congress President D.K. Shivakumar and opposition leader Siddaramaiah confirming Yatnal's comments and claiming that BJP members, including current ministers, are in contact with them. The party is walking carefully on this issue.

BJP legislators and top officials are calling for an urgent enlargement of the cabinet to fill the four vacancies in the state. Despite the fact that the party's high command is preoccupied with elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur, as well as preparations for the impending Budget session, sources indicate the party is keeping an eye on developments in Karnataka.

MLA Yatnal has indicated that BJP ministers who have joined the party from the Congress or the JD(S) will leave the party after the elections and join the Congress. According to Yatnal, state leaders will follow in the footsteps of Uttar Pradesh leader Swami Prasad Maurya, who left the BJP cabinet and joined the Samajwadi Party.

Congress President Shivakumar has already been contacted by the leaders. "It is something about which we have information. They will resign from the BJP once the polls are announced. The party will be powerless to act at that point. They must act quickly to expand the cabinet "he explained.
