Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced on Thursday that the state government would introduce legislation before the Budget session to make temples self-governing.

CM Bommai, speaking at the BJP executive committee meeting in Hubballi on Wednesday, stated, "Hindu temples are currently governed by a set of regulations. We will introduce legislation in the Budget Session to make the temples self-sufficient." ", he said "Several religious institutions are operating safely under various regulations and have religious freedom. Our Hindu temples, on the other hand, are subject to government rules and regulations that limit their ability to use their own funds."

According to Bommai, "The system of temples requesting funds from government officials should be abolished. All temples will operate autonomously before the next Budget session, and we shall implement legislation to that effect." CM Basavaraj Bommai further stated that once the anti-conversion bill becomes law, the government will form a special task force to implement it.

This is considered as yet another important move by the Bommai government, which recently saw the contentious "Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021," often known as the "anti-conversion bill," pass the legislative assembly in Belagavi.
