BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is now in power in Karnataka, has made the long-delayed decision to expand the Cabinet. Party sources claim that the high command has made a decision regarding the matter, and that the cabinet expansion will likely be finished by the first week of August.

Former ministers K.S. Eshwarappa and Ramesh Jarkiholi, who resigned in the wake of serious allegations, have the best chance of being appointed to the government, Party sources said.

According to BJP sources, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai would visit Delhi on Sunday (July 24), and top leaders are anticipated to give the go-ahead for the exercise of expanding the cabinet.

In light of the approaching state assembly elections in 2023, which are less than 10 months away, the "aspirants" are calling for the expansion.  The party has made a decision in this regard, according to sources, even though there was a wait for the Rajya Sabha elections to conclude and certain leaders asked to delay until the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike polls.

The party is open to accepting 10 new members, and there are 5 open cabinet positions in the state cabinet. The party leadership will be happy with filling open cabinet positions despite there having been discussions about a total makeover of the government given the impending assembly elections.
