Karnataka CM alerts BBMP officials on heavy rain forecast by IMD

The Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa has instructed the BBMP Bengaluru city civic body to stay alert as the Indian Meteorological department (IMD) predicted heavy rains for two more days. The south Bengaluru region had faced the brunt of heavy rains, the storm water drains overflowed and turned the roads into rivulets and many houses were inundated. Following this sitaution, CM instructed BBMP to be alert.

The CMO has said in a statement that Chief Minister had called the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP-city civic body) commissioner Manjunath Prasad and directed him to visit the areas that saw flooding. He also asked the commissioner to maintain alertness with the Met department predicting heavy rains today and tomorrow also. CM is the in-charge of Bengaluru related affairs. He has arranged a meeting with BBMP officials on Saturday to assess the situation and measures being taken by the civic body in this rainy time. Heavy downpour of rainfall was seen friday evening, resulting water logging in various parts such as Hosakerehalli, Nayandahalli, Basavanagudi, Bommanahalli, Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

The waterflow swept away few vehicles in the locality. The officials informed several wards have recorded more than 100 mm rainfall yesterday and civic workers are carrying out the cleaning activities since morning. Revenue Minister R Ashoka, who visited the affected areas said he will be discussing the issues to the Chief Minister and speak regarding relief measures to those affected. The minister said NDRF team has rescued three people, water and food arrangements have been made for those in need.
