Bengaluru:  On Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai reassured the public that there is no plan to impose lockdown in Karnataka, and urged people not to believe rumours to the contrary.

In a press conference in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister reiterated, "Now is not the time to impose the lockdown. Life should continue on as usual." He did, however, request that people adhere to the COVID-19 standards in public areas. Institutions must also act responsibly by conforming to the rules when conducting programmes.

According to the Chief Minister, "The state administration is keeping a close eye on the new COVID variation dubbed "Omicron." Meanwhile, safeguards against the Delta variant are being enhanced as well. On two fronts, the government is addressing the problem. In questionable cases, test swab samples were forwarded to the National Center For Biological Sciences (NCBS) for genome sequencing to determine the specific variation. At airports, international travellers are thoroughly screened. Those who had contact with them are being tracked down and tested as well."

"The state administration has released recommendations for establishing clusters in areas where an increase in cases has been detected. Those in the clusters are tested again seven days after the first test results are positive. At SDM college in Dharwad, almost 4000 people were tested. Similar experiments are being conducted in Bengaluru clusters in Mysuru, Hassan, and Anekal ", Bommai added.
