BENGALURU: Basavaraj Bommai, the Chief Minister of Belagavi district, has requested a full investigative report into the death of three children in the limits of the Salahalli Primary Health Centre in Ramdurg taluk of Belagavi district.

The Chief Minister requested the report from the Deputy Commissioner since it was reported that the children died after receiving a Rubella injection, which is commonly used to treat diarrhoea. On Monday night, Bommai spoke with the Belagavi DC over the phone. So far, the investigation has found that the nurse had collected the vaccination vials from the pharmacy one day prior and had put them in a hotel fridge with food items, in violation of all standards.

This resulted in a bacterial infection, and the three babies died of'septic shock syndrome' after receiving these immunizations. On January 12, two people died after being vaccinated at the Bochagala camp. On January 11, one death was recorded from the Mallapura camp. In the Ramdurg taluk of Belagavi district, 17 babies were vaccinated at Bochagala, and four babies were vaccinated at Mallapura. Two more female youngsters, one of whom is 18 months old and the other of whom is 12 months old, are healing in hospitals.

On Monday, Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar announced that Nurse Salma and pharmacist Jayaram had been ordered to be suspended immediately. The Health Minister also claimed that he has authorised a new high-level probe into the unfortunate incident, with instructions to submit the results within two days.
