NEW DELHI: In the midst of hectic discussions inside the party to choose its chief minister face in the southern state, Siddaramaiah, a candidate for chief minister of Karnataka, visited Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday.

A day prior to the meeting, Siddaramaiah spoke with Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the Congress, at his home on the formation of the government.

Other Chief Minister-aspirants in the Congress including Veteran leader and former deputy CM G Parameshwara have pitched themselves for the post as well. Kharge yesterday held a number of meetings with party leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Congress central observers, newly-elected MLAs and the two main contenders Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah. 

Later on in the day, D K Shivakumar, the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress, is also set to see Rahul Gandhi.

After the party seized control of Karnataka from the BJP, both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are vying for the top position.

After the Congress pulled off a shock victory in the assembly elections, gaining 135 of 224 seats, the party has conducted a number of meetings to discuss who will be the state's chief minister.
