BANGALORE: The Karnataka Congress has started a campaign against the state government's "Viveka Scheme," under which newly-built classrooms will be painted in saffron colour.
The Congress requested Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to first construct children's restrooms instead of painting the classrooms as part of its "CM Uncle" campaign.
On behalf of schoolchildren, the Congress posed questions to Bommai throughout the campaign.
"Schools lack necessary infrastructure all around the state. Children are having trouble without restrooms. CM Uncle, construct restrooms first, provide us with clean drinking water, and provide amenities that will draw children to schools before painting the school buildings in saffron "the party tweeted.
The Congress also mentioned that the state government is implementing the scheme in the name Swami Vivekananda who was responsible for the industrial and scientific revolution in India, but the Chief Minister is not "coming forward with implementing programmes which inculcate scientific temperament in students".
"There no proper midday meal, is no good teaching what action are you going to take? The scheme to give eggs to malnourished children is not being implemented properly. Take action to distribute eggs, don't give room for corruption in buying eggs also," the party added.
8,100 classrooms will be painted in saffron as part of the "Viveka Scheme."
In addition, the BJP-led Karnataka government plans to begin offering meditation lessons to pupils in kindergarten through class twelve as well as in high school.
