Bangalore: Karnataka is scheduled to go to the polls for bypolls to two assembly seats on October 30. Campaigning has intensified in the state, but in the meantime, the Karnataka Congress has tweeted about PM Narendra Modi, which has sparked a controversy. A tweet from the Karnataka Congress called PM Modi an 'Illiterate.'

In this Tweet in Kannada, the Congress wrote, 'Congress built schools. Modi did not study. Even when he came up with a plan for adult education, he did not study. Begging is prohibited, but begging is making people who go an easy life beggar. The country is suffering due to 'Illiterate Modi'.' The Karnataka Congress tweet also triggered an uproar. BJP Karnataka spokesperson Malvika Avinash said, 'Only Congress can fall so low.'

Karnataka Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal also admitted that the tone of the tweet was not correct. However, he also said that there is no reason to withdraw or apologise for the tweet. The tweet has now triggered a stir in Congress as well. State Congress president DK Shivakumar has ordered the social media team to delete the tweet. He also called for strict action against those who tweeted the tweet. He said this type of language cannot be tolerated at all.
