BAGALKOT: In horrific incident of honour killing, a minor girl and her lover were killed and their bodies dumped into the Krishna river in Bagalkot, police said on Tuesday. The bodies are yet to be identified.
The bizarre incident took place early on October 1, said the Bagalkot Rural Police. The girl's family took her and Vishwanatha Nelagi, who was 22 years old, out under the guise of bringing them together.
They were taken in two different cars to the riverbank, where the girl was strangled with her dupatta and the boy was repeatedly hit in the groyne and chest until he died.
The suspects then threw the bodies into the river from an Almatti Road bridge. Police said that they took off all the clothes from the bodies, except for the underwear, because they were afraid that someone could identify them.
When the boy's father couldn't find his son, he went to the Nargund police station on October 3 and reported him missing.
On October 11, the girl's father also filed a kidnapping report to trick the police.
During questioning, the girl's brother didn't give answers that made sense, which made the police suspicious. After being questioned for a long time, he broke down and said he had killed the two.
Based on what he said, police arrested the girl's brother, Ravi Hullannanavara, who was 19 years old, and her cousins, Hanumantha Malnadada, who was 22, and Beerappa Dalwayi, who was 18 years old. Further investigation is on.
