Bangalore: An animal doctor performed surgery in Kadur Taluk in Chikkamgaluru district of Karnataka on Thursday and removed 21 kg of plastic from the stomach of a cow. The cow had accumulated such a large quantity of plastic in its rumen for quite some time. Tell us that rumen is called the first stomach of a ruminator. The cow, aged 3 to 4, was beginning to suffer from swelling, weakness, and lack of nutrition, as its digestive capacity had decreased. The doctor removed 21 kg of plastic from the cow's body at the government veterinary hospital after 4 hours of successful surgery.

Veterinary officer Dr. B.E. Arun has said that when a cow eats plastic, it cannot digest it or send it to the next chamber, causing it to accumulate in its stomach for ages. The temperature in the rumen increases and the plastic starts melting within the body itself. This prevents other food from getting digested. That's why blood doesn't get the necessary nutrients from eating again. The cow was kept standing during surgery and was given local anesthesia. The doctor said the cow is now healthy, she will be given antibiotics for the next five days. At the same time, the cow will also be given pain reduction medicines.

Arun has treated 10-15 such cases in Kadur itself in the last year. He said that in case of such a situation, it is necessary to minimize the use of plastic so that no other animal is in place. Do not put food in a plastic cover whenever it is thrown or feed to animals. Do not use plastic as far as possible to prevent silent animals from entering such a situation.
