Bengaluru: Yesterday, Sree Shivakumara Swamiji of Siddaganga mutt passed away at the age of 111-year-old. After his death, Tumkur, Karnataka Deputy CM G Parameshwara targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not being present in sage’s funeral.

Hitting out at the Prime Minister, Parameshwara claimed that Modi had time to attend “celebrity wedding” but not the funeral of the 111-year-old sage, who was known as ‘the Walking God’. He took to Twitter and wrote, PM Modi attends celebrity weddings, meets movie stars but skips the funeral of our NaDedāDuva devaru, who dedicated his life to help the poor & the marginalised. Repeated requests to confer Bharat Ratna on him have gone in vain. Truly well-deserved recipient of Kotler Award."

Later, when questioned about his tweet attacking the PM Modi, Parameshwara told reporters that he believes that the PM should have attended the funeral. He said, “PM should've attended the cremation ceremony. I am not saying where else PM should have gone. I am not a small-minded person. If PM would've attended, it would have raised the level of his office.” Notably, Parameshwara defended Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who had also skipped the funeral on Tuesday, by stating that Gandhi was not occupying a position in the government.
