Bengaluru: A number of changes have been made in the country for some time now meanwhile Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday introduced the Karnataka Electric Bike Taxi Scheme-2021 in Bengaluru to create jobs, reduce pollution and reduce dependence on individual vehicles. The policy comes at a time when there has been opposition to licensing bike taxis to start in the city.

The same Chief Minister Yediyurappa said that the new policy will strengthen self-employment, environment-friendly environment, fuel conservation, and public transport. The Chief Minister said that the main goal is to reduce the travel time for the people. Quoting the CM, the CM's office said that people, partner companies, and other companies will get an opportunity to participate in the scheme. The two-wheelers registered under the scheme will be included in the transport category for which the Government has given several exemptions.

It also includes exemption from permit tax. Even after being the tech and startup capital of the country, the old laws were becoming a hurdle in the bike taxi of app-based cab aggregators. Soon after cab aggregators like OLA and UBER introduced bike taxis in 2016, the Transport Department cracked down on them and seized their vehicles as there was no such provision in the old laws at that time. Bike taxi providers say the new policy will improve the city's ecosystem, the worst traffic wall globally picked in 2019.
