Bengaluru: Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala has signed the anti-cow slaughter ordinance. The ordinance passed in the name of Karnataka Cow slaughter Prevention and Cattle Protection Bill 2020 has banned the killing of cows, smuggling, illegal transport, and atrocities on cows in the state.

The anti-cow slaughter bill was passed in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, back in December. During this time, the opposition created a ruckus in the House. Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah alleged that the Bill was not discussed in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. We had discussed that the new bills will not be implemented. During this time, slogans were also raised in the house by members of the opposition party.

Congress had expressed apprehension that the passage of the bill could be misused for communication on communal grounds and targeting minorities. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been saying that the bill is for protecting those cows which are sacred to Hindus.
