Karnataka govt to recruit transgenders for Police post

BENGALURU: For the first time, the Karnataka government has invited transgender candidates to apply for positions in the state police department. The Karnataka Police Department has called for applications from transgenders for various positions in accordance with the Amendment of Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977.

According to a recent notification, four posts of special Reserve sub-inspector for the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and one post of special Reserve sub-inspector for the India Reserve Battalion will be reserved for transgenders.

Transgender candidates must obtain a certificate from the district magistrate, according to the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment's Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules 2020. 

The announcement was made by the Additional Director General of Police (Recruitment). Five of the 70 positions are reserved for transgender people. Transgender candidates who meet the qualifications can apply online until January 18.
