Karnataka invites UK Edinburgh University to set up campus in Bengaluru

Karnataka's Minister of Higher Education C N Ashwath Narayan, asked Edinburgh University to establish a campus here on Friday. During his visit to the 450-year-old university in Scotland, the Minister met with top university officials and made the offer, according to a statement from the Minister's office.

Officials from Edinburgh University responded positively to the suggestion, according to the release, and Narayan invited them to the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS-22) silver jubilee event in November.

"In Karnataka, the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) is paving the path for internationalisation of education. Edinburgh University is also known for its multidisciplinary education, which is at the heart of NEP. These considerations favour the establishment of an Edinburgh University campus in Bengaluru," he stated.

In addition, the Minister undertook consultations on higher education collaborations and considered the implementation of 'Twinning Courses.'

He saw the robotic lab, data science, and AI centres situated at the Bayes Centre, which is an incubation and a unique concept of a multi-disciplinary education centre on the Edinburgh University campus.

The Minister also reviewed the possibility of collaborating with VTU Belagavi in the fields of artificial intelligence, mechatronics, and cyber security.
