Bengaluru: An accident was reported at a firecracker godown in Karnataka's capital Bengaluru on Thursday. Three persons have died in the accident. The incident is said to have taken place in the Tharagupet area where the Patakha godown exploded. Three persons were killed while 4 others are said to be injured in the accident. Bengaluru South DCP Harish Pandey has reported about the accident.

He said the blast took place in a godown built with a puncture repair shop. At the same time, he also said that the blast was caused by unstable chemicals which was an industrial consignment. The injured have also been identified. Harish Pandey said it was neither a cylinder blast nor a cracker blast or a short circuit blast. There were no pieces of a compressor. He said the matter is under investigation and forensic experts will give their opinion on the cause of the blast.

He also added that there were still 60 cans of 'unstable explosives' inside the godown. The source and owner of the consignment are also being investigated. According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was so dangerous that people up to 2 kilometres away heard the sound while locals thought the earthquake had occurred. Earlier, a strong blast was also reported in West Bengal's capital Kolkata on Thursday. The blast took place around 6.30 am in a building on Ahipipukur First Lane under Karaya police station.
