Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bengaluru South Tejashwi Surya had busted the ongoing 'bed scam' in Bengaluru alleging that some employees of the greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) were indulging in a scam in connivance with agents. Surya had alleged that the employees booked beds in hospitals in the name of patients suffering from coronavirus infection living in home isolation and later sold them to needy patients for a hefty sum.

The 40-year-old woman Netravati and her 22-year-old nephew Rohit Kumar were arrested by Bengaluru police last Tuesday in the case. Now it is being reported that the accused Netravati has been associated with the Congress party and has attended several Congress rallies and programs, he is said to be a Congress leader. According to media reports, Netravati has been associated with the State Leadership of Congress. Police have arrested the duo while performing a sting operation.

A police team approached Netravati and Rohit Kumar for bed as relatives of a corona virus-infected patient. Bengaluru South DCP Harish Pandey said the accused used to send messages to patients infected with Covid-19 to provide beds in hospitals through WhatsApp. He also informed that the accused Netravati was associated with the war room of BBMP and was also connected to the network of private hospitals where patients were provided beds in hospitals ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 and sometimes more than Rs 50,000.
