In Karnataka, a Dalit man has accused the police of forced to drink to drink urine. As soon as the allegation came to an fore, the Karnataka Police has ordered a departmental inquiry into the allegations made by the person last Saturday. According to the information received, the Dalit man said, 'The incident took place on May 10 at Gonibidu police station in Mudigere taluk of the district. Puneet, a man, reportedly lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chikkamgaluru, and a departmental inquiry was ordered thereafter'.
As part of the information received in the case, Puneet in his complaint alleged that "the police in custody in Chikkamgaluru district had forced him to drink urine during interrogation inside a police station. Puneet has also written to Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood seeking justice in the matter'. He has also requested for strict action against the police including the inspector who used abusive language. In the letter, Puneet reportedly said, "I was taken to the police station and beaten up. My hands and feet were tied. I was thirsty and asking for water, because if I didn't get water, I would have died. Meanwhile, the police asked a man to urinate on me and not only that, the police told me that if I wanted to get out, I would have to drink the urine from the floor".
Moreover, Puneet has alleged that, 'The police assaulted me in the police station and also abused my Dalit community. They treated me very badly about the false allegations levelled against me. I myself called the police to get protection from the villagers, but it was the police who treated me cruelly'. Puneet has now also written to the Home Minister, DGP and Human Rights Commission seeking justice.
