BENGALURU: Opposition leader Siddaramaiah has demanded that a BJP leader in the Dakshina Kannada district be arrested immediately in connection with the murder of a Dalit Congress worker.

"It's a disgrace that BJP politicians, who talk about Hindu safety and security all the time, are sheltering a Dalit youth accused of murder," he wrote on Twitter.

Siddaramaiah condemned the murder of Dalit youth Dinesh, saying that the murderer is also a Bajrang Dal activist, which has caused concern among the slain youth's family. Under no circumstances should the police give in to public pressure and arrest the accused right away. Security should also be given for the family.

A case has been filed against the murder of Dinesh, a Dalit youth residing in Kanyadi near Dharmasthala, according to Vasanth Bangera, a former Congress MLA from Belthangadi constituency. The accused is a BJP politician, and if he is not apprehended, a large-scale demonstration will be held in front of the Dharmasthala police station.

On February 23, accused Kitta a.k.a. Krishna assaulted Dinesh over a minor matter. He had been hit in the abdomen and trampled by the accused. Dinesh suffered in his home since he was unable to receive treatment. The victim's family asked accused Kitta on February 24 to have him treated since he had abused him.
