The Karnataka government issued revised COVID-19 guidelines on Monday, relaxing the night curfew and reopening schools for grades 6 to 8, among other things.

It was resolved to reduce the night curfew in all districts except Kodagu, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi during a meeting headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. These districts are bordered by Kerala, a state where coronavirus infections have been on the rise. State Revenue Minister R Ashok informed "In Kerala, cases are going up day by day. In view of that, all the students and others coming to Karnataka will be kept under one week of institutional quarantine. After seven days, they will again undergo the COVID-19 test."

Classes for grades 6 to 8 will resume on September 6, according to Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh. "Classes will be held five days a week with a 50% attendance rate," Nagesh added. The classrooms will be fogged and disinfected for two days. Karnataka, for example, has already resumed schools for classes 9-12 as of August 23. Now, weddings and other gatherings can have up to 50% occupancy, although large wedding halls can only hold up to 400 people.

In a recent data report, Karnataka recorded 1,262 new COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths on Sunday, which took its total number of infections to 29,47,255 and the toll to 37,278. The state currently has 18758 active coronavirus cases.
