NEW DELHI: The case was heard in the apex court on Thursday amid a looming threat to the Congress-JDS coalition government in Karnataka. On a petition filed by 10 rebel Congress-JDS MLAs, the Supreme Court directed all MLAs to meet Karnataka Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar this evening. The court also directed the speaker to take a decision on the matter today itself. Speaker Ramesh Kumar has reached the apex court against the direction.

Karnataka Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar has sought a stay on his order by the apex court on Thursday morning to take a decision on the resignation of MLAs. Speaker Ramesh Kumar says that the apex court cannot give such directions. The apex court has refused to hear the plea immediately today. The case of rebel MLAs will be heard tomorrow as well.

The apex court on Thursday heard the petition filed by rebel Congress-JDS MLAs. Meanwhile, the apex court ordered all the 10 MLAs to meet the speaker at 6 pm. During the hearing, the apex court said that all MLAs should inform the speaker about his resignation. The Supreme Court has said that the speaker will then take a decision on his resignation.
